Cliff Street Fremantle
The area around Cliff Street in Fremantle is one of the most popular wedding photography locations for couples getting married near Fremantle and the Cottesloe coastal strip. It has a great range of background textures all available within a short walk of the Cliff Street parking space at the western end of High Street. Whilst most of the buildings are from the Federation period there are a range of architectural styles and textured walls including old brick and limestone facades as well as access to the Round House and nearby Bathers Beach.

The Fremantle Roundhouse
At the western end of High Street the Roundhouse (officially on Captains Lane) is a photography hot spot. The lawn adjacent to the Roundhouse has sweeping views of Bathers Beach and is often used for wedding ceremonies too.
Bathers Beach
Bathers Beach offers a sheltered beach and spectacular views for sunset photography and the promenade is often used for wedding ceremonies.

Parking near Cliff Street
The interesting thing about going to Cliff Street for photography is that it is rare to stop or park in Cliff Street. There is limited parking on the eastern side of Cliff Street but the busy thoroughfare is not the ideal location for wedding parties to be exiting and entering limousines.
When using the area for wedding photography the safest location for limousines and wedding cars to park and assist passengers is the western end of High Street.
If you have personal cars and are intending to park for an extended period Little High Street has ticket parking. If you are in a wedding party and leaving your wedding limousines to wander the adjoining streets the driver will stay with the limousine in High Street.
Wedding limousine access
Access to the High Street parking area off Cliff Street is easy for all types of traditional wedding cars as well as stretched Chrysler and Hummer limousines.
if there is any inconvenience associated with the location, it is its popularity. On a typical Saturday afternoon during the peak wedding season it is common for the wedding cars and limos for several weddings to be parked in the High Street and little High Street parking zones while the wedding parties are cruising the nearby streets at the same time.
Never-the-less there are so many interesting backdrops every group is able to be accommodated and the photographers move between locations awaiting their time on ‘the wall’ if it is in the schedule for the day’s photographs.
Wedding cars at ‘the wall’
The arches on the remaining wall along Cliff Street next to the parking area are a legendary photography location for Fremantle weddings. There is no parking on that side of Cliff Street, however, with the cooperation of the wedding photographer it is common for a photo including the wedding cars to be taken in front of the wall.

Parking in High Street
The northern side of High Street is preferable for parking. For much of the year there is some shade and the old buildings make a nice backdrop for photos featuring the wedding cars. If you arrive on a busy day park in Little High Street until a position becomes available in High Street.
Photographers may request positioning a car at an angle or in a different position which should be accommodated as long as the wedding car or limousine is safe and not interfering with traffic flow for a prolonged time..
Wedding car photos at the wall
If the opportunity occurs to use the wedding cars in a photo at the arched wall try to accommodate the photographer. There may only be a small time frame before traffic becomes banked up in Cliff Street and the drivers frustrated, so have the photographer prepare the wedding group before you drive around Little High Street and enter Cliff Street from Cloke Street for a quick stop and photo session. The driver will probably need to control traffic for a short time to accommodate the photo shoot.
Wedding car photo locations
Various photographer each have their signature shots with wedding cars. As long as it is safe to do so, try to accommodate any reasonable requests to position the wedding cars for feature photos.
Communicating with wedding parties
Cliff Street is a location where the wedding photographers my ‘disappear for 30-45 minutes wandering the streets adjacent streets. The group may end up at the other end of High Street, the Fremantle port area or Bathers Beach. Ask the photographer for an indication about were they are headed and offer to drive to collect the wedding party or meet in a different location if they wish. Cliff Street is the most reliable parking space in this part of Fremantle, so give them a business card with you number and have them ring when they are nearing the end of the shoot.
