Lancaster Winery in the Swan Valley near Perth is a favourite stop for wine tour groups. When our limos pull into Lancaster I know it always strikes people as different. The Shed at Lancaster has become a legendary success story attracting tour groups, locals enjoying a day in the valley and international tourists attracted by its reputation. The secret to the tasting shed is its simplicity and the friendly, young and well trained staff.
On the plus side a visit to Lancaster Winery is fun and they have a great selection of well crafted wines and gourmet cheeses for tasting and the staff are entertaining. The open air venue and relaxed atmosphere suits a day in the Swan Valley perfectly. If there is a downside it is the popularity of the venue with bus tour groups. On a bad day there can be several large bus groups at the venue at one time which can greatly diminish the typical level of experience one enjoys.

Staff at the vineyard regulate the booking schedule to attempt to minimise overcrowding but his can often happen if a set of buses about to leave are met by a group of new arrivals.
Be wary of booking inexperienced (often very cheap) wine tour limos who ask you to pick your own venues. Several wineries and breweries including Lancaster will send away unbooked tour groups which is very frustrating is you have already paid for the limo and spend the day looking for venues with room to fit your group in.
Midweek at Lancaster Winery is one of the Swan Valley’s best experiences. Staff are relaxed and our small group wine tours in a classic Jaguar convertible are great fun.
